Now working from her studio in Richmond, B.C., Jean Huang’s figurative oil paintings are a quiet meditation on growth and identity. Born in Taiwan and trained at Boston’s SMFA at Tufts University, she later moved into early childhood education after the birth of her daughter. That lived experience shapes her practice, where painting meets developmental psychology. In her ongoing series, “A Small Play,” she captures fleeting formative moments with a gaze that is both maternal and precise.
Her paintings begin as digital glitches. She prompts AI to generate raw imagery, then dismantles and rebuilds it before translating it into oil on linen. By day, she observes how children truly move and breathe. This is not about cute portraits. Drawing on child development, she focuses on subtle frictions adults often overlook. Her porcelain-like figures appear still and calm, yet a dense psychological weather moves beneath the surface. The work studies visibility, asking what remains hidden when a child is being seen.
目前於卑詩省列治文工作室創作的 Jean Huang，以具象油畫作為對成長與身份的靜謐凝視。她出生於台灣，畢業於波士頓 Tufts University 之 School of the Museum of Fine Arts。女兒出生後，她投入幼兒教育領域。這段真實而日常的經驗，形塑了她的創作方法，使繪畫與發展心理學在畫面中相遇。在持續進行的系列《a small play》中，她以既溫柔又精準的目光，捕捉那些轉瞬即逝、卻深具形塑力的片刻。
她的創作始於數位生成影像。她以 AI 生成原始圖像，經過人為拆解與重構後，最終轉譯為油彩於亞麻布 上。白天，她在教育現場觀察孩子真實的動作與呼吸。這並非關於可愛的肖像。她根據兒童發展的理解，專注於成人常忽略的細微張力。那些瓷質般的孩子看似安靜與平穩，畫面之下卻流動著濃密而複雜的心理氣候。作品探問「被觀看」這件事本身，思考當一個孩子正被看見時，究竟還有什麼仍然隱而未現。
